April in Quahog
[edit]Thank you for copyediting April in Quahog. It is greatly appreciated. Gage (talk) 02:06, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- No problem, honestly—I didn't do very much. Thank you for all your work on Family Guy articles! liquidluck✽talk 03:55, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]Liq—thanks, that was AWESOME. My son actually came to me that same afternoon, and was like, "Hey, I met this really nice lady on Wikipedia, she left a really nice comment on my talk page, and actually she was so nice that I... told her my whole name." And I went, "You WHAT?!?!" So after I put the fear of god into him by telling him (again) about child predators posing as kindly older women, I went and checked out his correspondent, Figureskatingfan, who turned out to in fact be a kindly older woman (entirely beside the point of course). Anyway, while I'm glad the thread was rapidly suppressed, the speed and anonymity with which it happened did have a slightly Big Brother quality to it that made my feelings just a little mixed. So thanks for letting me know what happened, and for playing a really positive role on here by looking out for younger users—not least my son! AdRock (talk) 12:01, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
DYK for Monte Carlo (2011 film)
[edit]On May 17, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Monte Carlo (2011 film), which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

[edit]Could you help me set up my Wiki page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Graceannhill (talk • contribs) 21:20, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, kind of like yours, but I'm basicly gonna be poining things out. I'm work on Wikiqoute too. I'm mostly on there. But, when I'm on here I ask questions, and answer questions on discussion pages. Oh, and I fix little tiny things on pages most people don't see. Graceannhill (talk) 19:23, 28 May 2010 (UTC) Thanks! Graceannhill (talk) 20:12, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Hey!
[edit]Hey Liquid! I was going to ask you if I could help you with your project on User:Liquidluck/Sandbox. I actually had mine outlined on User:Ipodnano05/Sandbox. Also, can we add a section called "Transition" on Can't Be Tamed? There's a lot of info at Billboard's cover story. Are you up for it? -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 03:16, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Great minds think alike! You're totally welcome to help. I haven't seen Billboard's story, can you link me to it? liquidluck✽talk 03:24, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yes they do, haha. And yes sure, here is the first page of four. There's a lot of information about Can't Be Tamed that I've already added to the article. And doesn't she look absolutely beautiful in the top picture? It blew me away. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 05:05, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Also, have you heard the Can't Be Tamed samples; they're all over YouTube. I am currently obsesed with them! -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 05:13, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Definitely a good picture of her. I was a bit disappointed that there aren't any real ballads on the CD (I think those are her best), but the previews for "Two More Lonely People" and "Liberty Walk" sound really good. Which ones do you like best? liquidluck✽talk 22:50, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- 3 ballads, which is little compared to past albums. I loved all the samples - "Stay" and "Take Me Along" being the lowest points but still good. My favorites were "Who Owns My Heart", "Forgiveness & Love", and "Scars". "Permanent December" also sounded really good. I can't wait until June 22! -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 01:10, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry to bother but Fearless (Taylor Swift song) is being reviewed and they are asking for a sample of the song. Can you compose one, please? Something that involves the chorus and the line about dancing in the rain with her best dress on would definitely be cool. Thank you. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 01:42, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, by real ballads I meant more acoustic ones, they're all more dance-poppy. But the songs ate still quite good, definitely liked Permanent December. Unfortunately, my computer with the song editing program crashed, and I'm temporarily using a different one that I can't download anything on to. I should have my computer back by the end of the week (I've already sent it in), so ask if having one by next weekend would be alright. liquidluck✽talk 01:51, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Oh no worries, I will most definitely do that. "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", "Forgiveness & Love", and "Stay" sounded like ballads to me. The first did have a little bit of synths in it though. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 01:54, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, they are ballads. I'm just being picky :). liquidluck✽talk 02:32, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Haha, O.K. There's no power ballads from what I heard though. I was looking forward to one. Hopefully one of them is in hiding. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 03:32, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Also, I'd like to help on the your sandbox but quite frankly don't want to get in the way of what you're doing. Maybe you could assign some section to me? -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 04:19, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Do you think you can write an "other work" section, with her philanthropy and entrepeneurship? I'm not sure if the article also needs a performance style section, since she supposedly won't be doing much music anymore and a shift from pop to country-pop to dance-pop can be covered in the biography. Then again, the biography is already really long and needs shortening. liquidluck✽talk 12:10, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Also, I hope you don't mind but I copy-and-pasted your introduction from your sandbox into the article (I credited you in the edit summary). If you do mind, I'm sorry and I'll take it out. liquidluck✽talk 19:50, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh I don't mind at all. And I think it still needs a style section even if she takes a musical hiatus. As far that hiatus goes, it's just going to be a break for a few years. I give it three or four years, five at most. It's just that she's been restless in music ever since she started. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 00:34, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Also, I agree some of it needs shortening. For example, the unless it broke some kind of record the sales of its first week should not be mentioned. Specially like for the first soundtrack, the artists it beat out isn't important. In the Janet Jackson article, it says the RIAA certification for all the albums and the worldwide sales of each. Also, the fact that The Last Song is mentioned in the 2009 subsection seems unnecessary. Can't whatever that is stated there be merged into the 2010 subsection? Just a few ideas. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 03:06, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- I agree the first week sales are unnecessary, so I removed them. I put The Last Song in 2009 because it was part of her transition and fit in with the narrative. I'd rather not move it for now, although it could be later on. I'm not convinced a style section is necessary; what do you think it would include that can't be included in the biography? liquidluck✽talk 04:18, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Her variety, how at first she did teen pop, and since has explored pop rock, country pop, electropop, dance-pop, and adult contemporary. Her vocals have enriched throughout her career, that can be used too. It could all reference specific songs and critics. Also, it takes a bit of out the transition in the biography and helps to shorten it. As for performance, that has changed quite a bit too. At first she never rode on a motorcycle in the middle of a concert. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 04:30, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Influences, music videos, and live performances too. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 04:33, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe the best place to discuss this is the main talk page. First I'll ask if there are any major objections to the sandbox article, copy-and-paste it over if there aren't any, and then we can discuss the issue on the main talk. liquidluck✽talk 04:51, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up
[edit]Thanks very much to all who helped with the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive. We were very close to meeting our target of 7,500 articles remaining in the backlog. Our most shining success is the incredible reduction in the backlog of Special Requests. That part of the project saw a drop from 62 articles in the queue, some dating back to February of 2009, down to a stunning THREE, all of which were being edited at the close of the drive. The Special Requests page will now be a great resource for people looking to tidy up their article in advance of a GA or FA nomination, instead of a place where articles go to die.
Moving forward The drive has not only forced a great leap forward in reducing the backlog. It has helped promote the Guild, and led to a greater awareness of the level of vigilance required to keep the backlog manageable. Ideas such as charts, graphs, and barnstars helped motivate editors, and meeting other users helped quell any feelings gnomish editors may have had in the past that they were toiling all alone. Keep up the good work people!! Stats

[edit]Regarding this edit, why shouldn't they be italicised? Is there a policy that prevents this? --AussieLegend (talk) 03:59, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
- Websites are not included in the list of things requiring italics, but I just checked and I can't find anything actually prohibiting italics for websites, it's just (in my experience) customary. :This discussion on Template talk:Cite web supports not italicizing websites and channels, although it also recognizes that there is no policy actually prohibiting the italics. The use of italics for websites was mentioned on at least three FA candidacies (1, 2, 3]), all of which appear to support not using italics on websites.
- If this is contentious, we can bring it up on the talk page. I was also thinking about discussing removing all publishers, because they're not easily standardized. liquidluck✽talk 06:11, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
- De-italicising the content of the "
|work=
" field serves no useful purpose, especially since there is no policy against it. It does, however, confuse other editors when they see a field that is italicised by default with italics in it. It's best just to go with the defaults. As for removing publishers, it's best to provide as much information in citation templates so as to help avoid linkrot. In the event that a link goes dead, inclusion of the publisher may assist in replacing the dead link so it's not a good idea to remove such information just because you can't standardise. Citations don't need to be standardised in this way, it's just nice to do. If the contents of the "|work=
" and "|publisher=
" fields are identical, only one is needed ut otherwise, there's nothing to be gained by deleting the "|publisher=
" field. --AussieLegend (talk) 06:30, 10 June 2010 (UTC)- I disagree, the format of an article should be the best format for the reader, which I believe is the consistent formatting of publications. If Salon.com appears unitalicized in the text, it should remain so in the citation. This is a minor point for me, though, and my opinion isn't overly strong.
- As for publishers, I can appreciate their usefulness but not as they are currently used in the article. Knowing that a citation links to a Washington Post reprint of a Hollywood Reporter article would certainly be useful, but the usefulness of knowing that The WP is owned by the Washington Post Company or that HR is owned by e5 Global Media—depending on which owner is chosen to fill the field—is not clear to me. In my opinion, this citation should be rendered
|work=The Hollywood Reporter |publisher=The Washington Post
, or, if the article is published on Washingtonpost.com,|work=The Hollywood Reporter |publisher=Washingtonpost.com
—which would effectively solve the above italics-on-websites issue. liquidluck✽talk 07:09, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

And then I saw your edit on "When I Look at You" and "Can't Be Tamed" and I that since "Nothing to Lose" just has Cyrus for backup vocals (not a featuring or duet), it shouldn't be there or in her discography. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 00:43, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer permission
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:36, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) I would say just undo it, and leave an edit summary saying so. That seems to be most efficient; I don't think you have to accept everything that is not obvious vandalism, otherwise it'd just be rollback in reverse. {{Sonia|ping|enlist}} 07:07, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, accept it then revert it unless it's vandaspam, a BLP violation or a copyvio. It's just designed to screen out the most damaging stuff so, like with rollback really, if it looks like it good be good faith, don't treat it as vandalism. You're more than welcome anyway and let me (or my talk page stalkers!) know if you need anything else! All the best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 10:33, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

A few things...
[edit]First, I saw that there have been a lot of editions to Can't Be Tamed. I want to say that I think we should keep the "Development" section strictly about the the process of coming up with the songs. There is new info there that I thought would be good for the "Transition" section since it is about her changing her sound and image. As for the "Critical reception" section, I think it should be based on the critics opinions of the album overall and not mentioning any songs (then the text might grow too long), but that's just my opinion. See Breakout if you can't exactly picture what I'm talking about. The second thing is that do you mind crossing out your suggestions on the Taylor Swift discography FL talk. An editor recently removed the done templates, asking not to use them. Thank you, please reply as soon as you have the chance. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 03:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Weird, I thought I'd already replied to this! Maybe I didn't save. I've crossed off my comments and left two new ones, sorry about that. As for the Can't Be Tamed comments, maybe you should bring those up on the talk page so that other editors can read them and weigh in? liquidluck✽talk 20:05, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Good idea. We're not the only two users editing the article. I have already replied to your comments. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 21:15, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hey. I'm sorry but I need your help. I found absolutely great information for the "Compositon" section of "Today Was a Fairytale", which I'm working on in User:Ipodnano05/Sandbox4. - No need to be sorry! I'm happy to help. I'll just add some more info to the Can't Be Tamed article and then take a look at it. liquidluck✽talk 05:41, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

- O.K. Thanks so much. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 07:00, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- BTW. Have you bought the CD? What are your favorites now that the entire CD was released? And i have commented on the FL nomination. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 07:02, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- I've added as much as possible, but most of it is littered with critical reception. Definitely good to use as a review, though, because it discusses the music well. I haven't actually listened to the whole CD, but so far I kind of agree with the critics; she's better off without all the technology. I wish she had gone rock instead like she originally planned, but maybe I'll change my mind after hearing the entire album. Do you have a favorite? liquidluck✽talk 09:06, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not a big fan of the auto-tune but I still love all the dance numbers. Um, I already bought the deluxe editon and my favorite is "Forgiveness & Love". Most of the other tracks equal to each other. It's pretty good, I think. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 17:11, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
- Also, thanks for helping with the project. It's pretty much what I envisioned. And can you please comment on the FL candidature. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 17:23, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Fifteen (song) and WP:BLP
[edit]I removed the material in question because it violated the biograhpies of living persons (BLP) policy. In making that decision, I carefully read the article and cited sources. I reviewed the actual lyrics and what Taylor Swift says/writes about her song writing. Per BLP, objectionable material should be removed immediately without notice or discussion. A longer (detailed) response is here. Sehome Bay (talk) 22:52, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I agree with Sehome Bay and I've removed the line. That's a very sensitive topic and could potentially cause real offence and damage to the reputation of a named, living person and since Swift hasn't commented on the interpretation, we shouldn't be repeating other people's speculation. A good test to use is how you would feel if that was written about you in an article that gets fair viewing statistics. Also, I hate to load it onto you (I'm not being critical, or not trying to anyway!), but, per WP:BLP#Restoring deleted content, material removed in good faith as a potential BLP violation shouldn't be reinstated without discussion. If you need anything, just yell- I'm watching your talk page, or you can post on mine or email me. :) Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:21, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
[edit]SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot (talk) 22:41, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Reminder
[edit]Hi! This message is just a friendly reminder that you signed up to participate in the GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive. I noticed that you haven't logged a single copy edit yet. We'd love to see you participate! The drive runs three more weeks so there's still plenty of time to earn barnstars. Thanks! --Diannaa (Talk) 22:28, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
Me again..
[edit]Hey, I was wondering if you could tell me how to get "badges" [or userboxes] on the side of my wikipage. Do you have to earn them? Or can you just add them when you please?
GOCE Newsletter
[edit]
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update. Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board. The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated. This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), and The Raptor Let's talk.|} Orphaned non-free image File:Lucasjonas.jpg[edit]PLEASE NOTE:

I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. The page created by mine has new layout and I really hope that it will be kept, as I will make further improvement to it. Have your say here, thank you. I will notice other users joined above AfD, too. Silvergoat (talk∙contrib) 08:40, 8 January 2011 (UTC) GOCE drive newsletter[edit]
